Topic: I am sorry, I am an addict (caffeine) General purpose: to inform
Specific purpose: to inform people on the disadvantages of having caffeine.
Introduction: Caffeine. Nothing turns me on like a good cup of coffee. i love my coffee. can't live without it. Although we have been together for only about a month or so, it has been a loyal part of me these days
But then, there are a number of undeniable advantages to come across me should i decide to throw the coffee out of my life.
Main body 1:
it'd be better for my diet.
Supporting details:
- coffee decreases our metabolism rate like hell?
- u get thinner faster with coffee.
- point very much proven when i calculate my annual average weight gain.
Main body 2:
it reduces the depressive degree of my PMS.
Supporting details:
- high caffeine intake is a major cause in triggering PMS in women.
- so that's why i tend to be very VERY emotionally disturbed when my PMS starts hitting me.
- i'll turn to my alter ego who deems herself unworthy and not intellectual enough.
Main body 3: Other side effects from excessive caffeine consumption are diarrhea, copious urination and facial flushing.
Supporting details: - It's hard to say how much caffeine is needed to trigger these side effects because everybody's body will react differently. - Occasional drinkers might experience the side effects after one cup whereas usual drinkers might get jumpy when drinking one more than usual.
Main body 4: Caffeine creates a dependency, and its main problem is caffeine withdrawal.
Supporting details: - This means that if someone who usually drinks between one and three cups of coffee a day suddenly stops drinking it, that person could develop headaches. - Other major drawbacks of quitting the brew are anxiety, light depression and fatigue. - Obviously these might seem like very severe side effects but only a minority of coffee drinkers will experience them.
Main Point 5:
Caffeine Is Highly Addictive
Supporting details:
-Like other drugs, caffeine causes a chemical addiction within the brain.
- Quitting coffee or soda can create withdrawal symptoms – headaches, sleepiness, irritability, anxiety – while the brain’s chemistry readjusts.
Main point 6:
Caffeine Increases Stress Levels
Supporting details:
- Drinking four or five cups of coffee a day makes the body act as if it is under constant stress. Combined with additional work pressures, it can increase blood pressure significantly, leading to an increased risk of long-term heart disease, says a US report.
Main point 7:
Caffeine accelerates Aging and Wrinkles
Supporting details: Caffeine contributes to the decline in production of hormones produced in abundance during youth – DHEA, melatonin, and others – which speeds the aging process. Because caffeine dehydrates the body, skin loses water from its cells, causing wrinkling and sagging.
Caffeine Accelerates Bone loss
Caffeine causes the urinary excretion of calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, and trace minerals, which can lead to osteoporosis. Some women are more likely to be affected by caffeine than others due to genetic factors; however, it seems prudent to recommend that all older women have adequate dietary calcium, and limit caffeine intake to no more than 300 milligrams per day.
Caffeine Causes The Mood Swings
Mood disturbances such as anxiety, depression, irritability, and attention disorders are aggravated by chronic caffeine consumption. Rather than increasing mental activity as many caffeine drinkers believe, caffeine actually decreases blood flow to the brain by as much as 30% and negatively impacts memory and mental performance. Mood disturbances may appear after the stimulant effect of caffeine wears off – often about three hours later prompting many to consume more caffeine and they may also appear during the recovery period after quitting caffeine.
Caffeine Disturbs Normal Sleep Patterns
Because it is a stimulant, caffeine keeps you awake longer, thereby shortening the amount and the quality of sleep each night, which takes a toll on your level of alertness the next day and overall health. Because of sleep deprivation and fatigue, a person might look to caffeine for a boost, thereby perpetuating the vicious cycle.
Conclusion:
- the facts are clear. but still, i take the risk. surely, good things happen for a reason, right? and sometimes, with a risk. when u love someone, u take it/him/her the way it/him/her is. i love coffee. it makes me feel so siti hajar. it would perhaps shorten the healthy side of my life span but i guess that would be the risk i have to endure.
- now i'm feeling like going to starbucks...
